How the technology works
Infrared saunas heat the body directly via far-infrared radiation at lower air temperatures (110-150F) than traditional saunas, with the mPulse layering near-infrared (~880nm) and mid-infrared emitters plus red LEDs; the core physiological effect — heat stress, sweating, heart-rate elevation, transient vasodilation — is shared with all saunas.
The largest human datasets on sauna benefits (cardiovascular mortality and dementia associations from Finnish cohorts) come from traditional hot saunas, not infrared; infrared-specific published research is more limited — small trials on blood pressure, heart-failure adjunct therapy (Waon) and subjective recovery.
Wavelength-specific whole-body claims ("targeting" detox, weight loss, cellular repair at distinct depths) are not supported by that literature, and sweat-based "detoxification" is not established.
Patented technology
SoloCarbon is Sunlighten's patented carbon-panel far-infrared heater with genuinely high far-IR emissivity (claimed 95-99%); the mPulse's 3-in-1 heaters add discrete near/mid-IR elements orchestrated by an Android control platform with preset "wellness programs" — real hardware, but the programs are essentially timed heater-mix presets with wellness branding.
