Overview

Fraxis Duo is an Ilooda system combining a CO2 laser with a high-frequency electrosurgical system; the FDA submission describes them as separate systems that cannot be used simultaneously. The CO2 source operates at 10,600 nm and has fractional and non-fractional handpiece modes.

The HF component delivers energy through disposable micro-needle electrodes. FDA-cleared use under K160312 is limited to fractional-mode ablative skin resurfacing, specified non-fractional CO2 soft-tissue procedures, and HF electro-coagulation and hemostasis in dermatologic and general surgical procedures.

Verify the quoted configuration, included handpieces, electrode supply, service arrangements, and applicable labeling with the seller before purchase.

How it worksTechnology and manufacturing

How the technology works

The CO2 side is a conventional 10,600nm fractional ablative laser (fractional, pulsed, and surgical modes) that vaporizes microcolumns of tissue for wrinkles, scars, and lesion work — the gold-standard resurfacing physics.

The RF side is ilooda's Secret technology: motorized microneedle cartridges (25- and 64-pin, semi-insulated or non-insulated, adjustable to ~3.5mm) delivering bipolar RF at depth for dermal remodeling without surface injury.

Stacked in one session, the CO2 addresses epidermal texture and pigment while the RF needles remodel the deeper dermis — the combination underlies the "Secret Pro"-style protocols now backed by multi-center data on scars and photoaging. Two mechanisms, one numbing session, compounding results.

Patented technology

ilooda's Secret motorized needle-insertion mechanism with semi-insulated needle design is the signature IP — semi-insulation delivers energy along the distal needle segment for a larger coagulation zone than fully insulated designs. The platform integrates both modalities in a single system.

Origin

South Korea (ilooda Co., Ltd., Suwon); the same factory lineage supplying Cutera's US-branded Secret devices.

    Scope as FDA lists it

FDA reports serious complications with certain uses of RF microneedling for aesthetic skin procedures, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage. Some injuries have required surgical repair or other medical treatment.

    Reason and action

Discuss potential benefits and risks with a licensed clinician trained in RF microneedling. FDA recommends reporting complications and says these devices should not be used at home.

Read the FDA notice for the devices or procedures covered, reported risks and recommendations.

Manufacturer response: none on file — manufacturers can reply via their company profile.

Screening considerationsCatalog notes to check against the current instructions for use

Catalog screening notes

For CO2: darker Fitzpatrick types (relative), active infection, isotretinoin history, keloids, pregnancy, and mandatory HSV prophylaxis perioral.

For RF-MN: implanted electronic devices and field metal; the combo session concentrates both risk profiles into one visit, so patient selection discipline matters more than on either standalone device.

These notes are not a complete or verified manufacturer contraindication list. Use the current instructions for the exact device and applicator to determine contraindications, warnings and patient eligibility.

    Safety communication readability

Shortened the October 15, 2025 RF microneedling communication summary after checking the FDA source. Kept all five reported complication types, possible surgical/medical intervention, clinician risk discussion, trained provider and adverse-event reporting guidance. Removed duplicate class-scope text because the public section already labels this as a class communication, not a unit recall. Did not change device associations, action identifiers, dates, status or source. This editorial check does not claim a new complete FDA enforcement sweep.
