Bottom line

Arguably the world's best-selling HIFU platform outside the United States — a Korean-built Ultherapy alternative with thousands of installs across Asia, Europe, Australia, and Latin America, at a fraction of Ultherapy's operating cost. Inside the US it occupies a gray zone: no FDA clearance exists, yet units circulate steadily through international brokers at $8k-20k depending on year and shot count. The technology itself is mature and well-studied internationally; the question for a US buyer is not whether it works but whether they can operate it defensibly. Read the FDA note before anything else.

Overview

Dominant HIFU brand outside US

How it works

The science

Delivers micro- and macro-focused ultrasound (Classys's MMFU) to precise depths — 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.5mm cartridges for face plus 6, 9, and 13mm for body — creating discrete thermal coagulation points at 65-75C without disturbing the surface. The 4.5mm depth targets the SMAS layer, the same plane a surgical facelift tightens. Contraction is immediate with collagen remodeling over 2-3 months, backed by international literature and a large Asian clinical consensus base. Shoots faster than Ultherapy and, per most operators, with less pain — though it lacks Ultherapy's ultrasound visualization.

Patented tech

Classys's MMFU cartridge system and high-speed shot delivery, with one of the widest cartridge depth ranges in HIFU.

Origin

Seoul, South Korea (Classys Inc.).

FDA & regulatory status

No US clearance on file

What it's actually cleared for:

No 510(k) exists for Ultraformer HIFU — US units are gray-market imports; Classys cleared other devices (Volnewmer, Scizer) instead

Regulatory data is compiled from public FDA 510(k) records and may lag recent clearances. Always confirm status with the manufacturer before purchase.

Treatment economics

What practices charge

Where used, full-face HIFU commands $800-1,800 and body areas $600-1,500 — comparable to Ultherapy pricing at a far lower cost basis. One to two sessions per year per patient: a high-ticket, low-frequency service.

Consumables & recurring cost

HIFU cartridges are the consumable — each rated for a fixed shot count (commonly 10,000-20,000) and dead when depleted, at ~$300-700 per cartridge through international suppliers. Gray-market cartridge sourcing carries real counterfeit risk — vet suppliers hard.

Ideal for

Best-fit practice

The experienced physician-owned practice that understands the regulatory posture, has confirmed insurance coverage in writing, and wants Ultherapy-class results without Ultherapy-class economics — often practices serving international patients who know the brand. The wrong device for a first-time buyer, an aesthetician-led spa, or anyone whose carrier hasn't explicitly signed off.

Compliance

Medical director & delegation

A medical director takes on real exposure supervising a non-FDA-cleared energy device, and many will decline outright; any director who agrees should require consent language disclosing the device's US regulatory status.

Contraindications & screening

Pregnancy, severe active acne or open lesions, metal implants or fillers directly in the treatment plane, anticoagulant concerns, careful energy selection over the thyroid and major nerve territories. Operator training matters more than usual — there's no US manufacturer clinical support to lean on.

Ownership

Warranty & service

No US manufacturer support exists — warranty, parts, and repairs run through the importing broker or independent techs, and cartridge authentication is on you. Assume the machine is on its own the day it lands.

Resale & used market

Surprisingly liquid because international demand is strong — 40-60% recovery on a functioning unit with genuine cartridges through broker channels. US-to-US resale is thinner and inherits every disclosure obligation you'd want a seller to give you.
